New insights into the coevolutionary history of termites and their gut flagellates: Description of Retractinympha glossotermitis gen. nov. sp. nov. (Retractinymphidae fam. nov.)

چکیده
Lower termites harbor diverse consortia of symbiotic gut flagellates. Despite numerous evidence for co-cladogenesis, the evolutionary history these associations remains unclear. Here, we present Retractinymphidae fam. nov., a monogeneric lineage Trichonymphida from Serritermitidae. Although Retractinympha glossotermitis gen. nov. sp. morphologically resembles members genus Pseudotrichonympha , phylogenetic analysis identified it as sister group Teranymphidae. We compared morphology and ultrastructure R . to that other Teranymphidae, including so-far undescribed solitaria Termitogeton planus (Rhinotermitidae). Like all is large, elongated flagellate with bilaterally symmetric rostrum, an anterior, flagella-free operculum, internal rostral tube. However, readily distinguished by length its flagella, which never exceeds postrostral retractable anterior end. Inclusion hitherto unstudied Stylotermes halumicus (Stylotermitidae) in our survey trichonymphid flagellates Neoisoptera confirmed combined presence Heliconympha absence unique The close relatedness Serritermitidae spirotrichosomid Stolotermitidae provides strong support their acquisition horizontal transmission.

A novel Gram-negative, non-motile, rod-shaped bacterium, designated CW-KD 4(T), was isolated from a polluted soil sample collected from Jiangsu Province, China, by using a classic enrichment method. Based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, the novel strain represented a deep-rooting lineage within the class Gammaproteobacteria that was clustered with the genera Hydrocarboniphaga and Nevskia an...

Two isolates, belonging to a new species of a novel genus of the Phylum "Deinococcus/Thermus ", were recovered from hot spring runoffs on the Island of São Miguel in the Azores. Strains RQ-24(T) and TU-8 are the first cultured representatives of a distinct phylogenetic lineage within this phylum. These strains form orange/red colonies, spherical-shaped cells, have an optimum growth temperature ...

A novel Gram-stain-positive, non-motile, moderately halophilic and alkalitolerant actinobacterium, designated EGI 80432T, was isolated from a saline-alkaline soil of Xinjiang province, north-west China. Cells were non-endospore-forming cocci with a diameter of 0.5-0.8 μm. Strain EGI 80432T grew in the presence of 0-9 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum at 3-5 %), and also grew within the pH range 6.0-10.0 (o...

Phylogenetic analysis of the class 'Alphaproteobacteria', including physiologically diverse species, was conducted by using small-subunit rRNA gene sequences. The 16S rRNA gene sequences of 261 species in the class 'Alphaproteobacteria' were obtained from GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ for constructing a phylogenetic tree by using maximum-likelihood analysis. In the resulting tree, members of the class 'Alp...
